Yellow Trousers & Breton Stripes • Spring Outfit

Yellow Trousers, Breton Stripes | Preppy Spring Outfit | Fake Fabulous

Hi Everyone!
How are you doing?

I've been a bit quiet here at Fake Fabulous recently, and totally absent from social media.
The absence from social is purely because I'm trying to stay away from drama and pity parties.
My blog silence is due to feeling zero motivation.
I've been struggling even to get dressed!

Today, however, I'm back (of sorts) to share a little colour and an outfit I didn't really wear but might have done if I'd been going out somewhere.

The trousers, shoes and jacket went straight back in the wardrobe after these photographs.
Out came some boring navy leggings (gym gear) and my sliders BUT I did wear the top and the hat today!
The hat was handy for keeping the sun off my face while sitting in the garden knitting.

(I've turned into my Nan! Knitting projects, pulling them out and re-knitting. I might wear some of my creations when the weather warms up a little... brace yourselves!)

Back to today...

This outfit is a potentially perfect Spring combination.
Stripes and colour.
Classically spring.

Yellow Trousers, Breton Stripes | Preppy Spring Outfit | Fake Fabulous

Bright yellow trousers and a classic Breton stripe.

These yellow trousers are a few years old now and are sadly on their last legs.
They look okay in these photos but the fabric has gone all saggy and faded.
They seem baggy and sad... especially in the crotch area, which is not the most flattering place to have extra fabric!

They've been a great piece in my wardrobe but I feel the time is right to recycle them.
So this will (probably) be their last outing.
Sad times.

The Breton top adds a classic spring-like feel and adding a blazer smartens things up a little.

Ballet flats are not the most flattering footwear (they shorten the leg and thicken the ankle) but they're easy to slip on and off and look okay with these trousers.

Adding a hat was a simple way to fix my unruly hair!

It's hardly a ground-breaking look but it has colourful wearability... which is what I love!

Are any of your clothes on their last legs?
Please share in the comments.

  1. That's a lovely outfit, Samantha. Gives me ideas for what to wear with my yellow trousers which have been a bit of a challenge. Hope you are feeling more chipper after your outfit had an outing... even if you didn't. :)

    1. Thank you Sue!
Yellow Trousers look great with so manythings... A denim shirt is another great match... Or leopard.... Or floral!! Anything really πŸ˜‡

  2. You look gorgeous and give us great hope for a brighter tomorrow. It's worth a try!!! Thank you.

  3. Thanks for the burst of colour. My clothes are crying to be let out. Spending my days in track pants and fleece sweaters.

    1. Me too Loree!!
I'm eating crap whilst wearing leggings... Not very 'fashion' πŸ˜‚

  4. Since I found yellow ankle boots, I'm totally in love with that color!

  5. Keep blogging Sam. I enjoy reading in these testing times! I love your honesty, ie what went straight back in the cupboard! I still remember a cord mini skirt I had throughout my 20s. I was gutted when eventually it had to be retired...

  6. Fabulous outfit! I am going to wear my 'going out clothes' at home, so long as they are comfortable. Dressing as usual, or even a step up, keeps my world sane. All the best :) Lise

    1. Good for you Lise!
I'm reverting to my 'true' slobby self though...for now πŸ˜….

  7. You look amazing!
Love the colors, especially the yellow pants!!

  8. I just unpacked my yellow cords for spring - you're giving me all kinds of good ideas here!

    1. Yes!!!
You don't need ideas any more Sheila... You're full to bursting with them.
I bet you'll be rocking those yellow trousers with a delightful clash of colour!! 🌈

  9. Hi my lovely, I am visiting you again. Thank you for this wonderful inspiration. I have a Breton striped shirt, I have a pair of bright yellow trousers and I have a bright blue jacket. I think I can "recreate" your outfit, which is a much nicer word than copying haha.
Ballet flats thickening your ankles will not really be a problem for you.
I have another problem with them as I have flat feet and a very low instep. So usually my feet look like Olive's (of Popeye) even though I have a size 5 1/2. But some ballet flats, like the London Sole ones are good. And expensive I need to add.
The hat looks so cool on you. I envy you for that. Haven't been able to find ANY such hat that suits me. I look really ridiculous in it. And I love such a hat. So cool.
Contrary to you, I dress up every single day (see my post of this week). One day in flat shoes (usually nice sneakers) en the other day in high heels. I just feel so much better. Luckily I have a husband around and he appreciates it. Plus, when it is nice weather, I will walk to the rubbish container at the end of the street, using our street as catwalk haha.

    1. Hahahaha.... I love that Greetje!
My husband was joking about putting on full Highland dress to put the bins out as my sister in law had told him she was doing her hair and makeup to put her rubbish out! πŸ˜…
Maybe I'll dress up tomorrow and think of your inspiring words. Thank you so much for such a lovely comment. X

    2. I am very fond of you my Scottish lass. Although you'd never know it if you count my visits 😊😘

  10. lovely outfit and lovely colors, I love the breton stripes with yellow, so summery!, and love the accessories you picked so brilliantly!
Isn't it dissapointing when trousers wore out in the crotch!?, I have not a solution!

  11. Ahhh.... I was hoping you might leave a pearl of dressmaking wisdom to fix my saggy trousers πŸ˜‡.
Thank you for your comment... I'm glad you like the Bretton and the yellow together too! Xxx

  12. This outfit is gorgeous, love all the factors of it and would love to re-creat it. Just need a great jacket! Jacqui xx
