{Sigh}
Knees can be a touchy subject, especially when you are on the south-side of 40.
Once we're over this milestone, we've slid smoothly into the second half of our lives and most of our body has gone south with us.
Knees can go particularly baggy from now on in!
So, at what point to we donate our short hemlines to the charity shop and cover up those 'offending' kneecaps?
Well, if you're a regular reader it probably won't surprise you to hear that I don't think any part of our body has an expiry date.
Let's face it, knees are not the most attractive part of a woman's body at any age and if you have knobbly ones (like me) they've probably always been a little bit on the 'ugly' side.
However, as long as you're happy to get them out, then get them out!
If your knees upset you cover them up, but NEVER cover up because you feel like you ought to.
Do it because you want to.
I'm going to be getting my knobbly knees out for the foreseeable future and I don't much care if anyone thinks I shouldn't!
{Read more about When legs get old and what to do about it HERE}
"Are you not too old for that?"
Well, Excuuuuuuuse me!
First, as I'm not currently six feet under so I don't consider myself too old for anything.
Second, I've been working my ass off at the gym recently and I feel like I've earned the right to keep wearing what I want AND even if I'd been sitting on a sofa for 12 months (eating cake) I would still be wearing what makes me happy.
So, thank you for your input, but keep your own insecurities to yourself and don't project them onto other people.
{Ahem... I didn't laugh this one off as I normally do! 😁)
Today's outfit is (IMO) ageless and fun!
A wrap skirt and a plain tee.
Simple as simple can be!
I like the spots on this skirt and it's (pointless) ruffle.
It's just a fun piece that is very easy and comfortable to wear.
Pairing it with a plain tee and a fun necklace seemed the way to go.
My husband recently surprised me with this fab necklace.
"It's SO you Sam. Doing what you want!"
{I'm sure that was meant as a compliment??}
I always try to do what I want, especially when it comes to style... and so should you!
What do you think?
Do you feel too old for certain clothes that you still want to wear?
I'd love to hear about it.
Please leave me a comment and say hello... I'll get back to you!
SKIRT: ASOS
T-SHIRT: M&S
TRAINERS: Puma (these are pink)
NECKLACE: Tatty Devine
Love that Tatty Devine necklace! Looks good. I love my denim cut offs and wear them regardless of the fact I am, heaven forfend, nearly 50! However, I've recently put them over a pair of footless tights, a look I last put together as a student. I thought i was too old for it, but I have been loving it. I may even revisit the red velvet sandals I used to wear! What the heck eh? Who cares.
ReplyDeleteWhy not Sam?! Go for it!
Delete(Those red velvet sandals sound fabulous!)

If the sun is shining and the temperatures allow it, bare the legs! And your legs look great. Yesterday I had a day off from work and the weather was kind so I was wearing very short blackxwhite shorts. To balance it a bit, I wore a wide Tshirt in blackxorange when shopping. 43yrs, so what.
ReplyDeleteDo what I want, is my nonnative English off or is it a bit impirative? It can be interpretted in so many ways ;-) After lurching the Tatty Devine shop, omg so many cool necklaces. Will send a link to the hubby for birthday ideas.
Very short shorts sound perfect to me Joze!! :o)
DeleteAs are the Tatty necklaces, I could spend hundreds of pounds quite easily.
I hope your hints fall on responsive ears!
Please let me know if you get something :o)

(Your English is perfect.)
I absolutely love this necklace, Sam! It's fabulous! What a great present from hubby! The necklace looks great against the lilac and the skirt is so fun! I love that you said you're not six feet under so you don't consider yourself too old for anything! That's so true! Life is for living and wearing what makes us happy is a big part of that, considering we have to wear clothing every day of our life! ;) XXX
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh Sasha when I put the link to the necklace up here... the model is also wearing a lilac top!!! Hahahahaha

Fabulous necklace. I wore a shorter dress yesterday on the blog and I really hate my legs, they are getting very ugly. But I don't care, I'm not going to hide them. Look the other way if you don't like them right!
ReplyDeleteHahahaha.... very true Nancy!
DeleteDon't hate your legs though... they do an amazing job!

Ahhh Jess... you do have AMAZING pins though! XXX
DeleteI love the necklace from your husband; that is the first thing I noticed! You look amazing, and I think even your knees look amazing! xx
ReplyDeleteHahahahaha.. thank you so much Lisa!! XXX
DeletePeople shouldn't care what others wear. If it makes them happy they should just go for it.
ReplyDeleteLove the outfit and that fun necklace.
As all over 40 somethings at a recent blogger meetup (some of us over 60 somethings) we didn't care what others said or thought when we wore matching band uniforms or created a faux wedding procession while thrifting. Honestly, I was more surprised at just how blasé everyone was. 90% of the other shoppers didn't even pause to look.
I have the wedding video on my blog if you're interested in a laugh.

How fabulous Suzanne.
DeleteI saw that video and thought you all looked sublimely bonkers!!
I loved it.
People tend to ignore the eccentricities of others, especially in the bigger towns... and thrift stores! :oP
I, on the other hand, would have to come over and ask you what you were all up to and where I could get some!!

Life is too short to worry about what other people think. Plus, it is good to just let go and have fun. That's why Melanie and I get along so well, we're trying to squeeze as much fun into our lives as possible. Laughing cures almost everything I find.
DeleteIf you hung around with us I know you'd find some of your own zaniness.

Hey, I'm on the other side of 50 now, I wear minis with bare legs! And have you seen Vix in her bikini? I love how people think they can just comment on others' clothing choices, based on AGE. Just ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteYou look wonderful in this fun outfit, Sam! It's frisky! I love it.
Hahahaha Sheila... Frisky!! I love it!!! XXX
DeleteYou look utterly and completely charming Sam. The necklace makes me think of The Rolling Stones band! You've got great knees! Slap on some sun screen and they'll be good to go for many more years.
ReplyDeleteYes Jude! That iconic lip image screams ATTITUDE to me... I love how this was influenced by that image,
DeleteI do wear suncream ... not that we need it too often, here in Scotland!! :oP
XXX
I totally agree with you! People who make nasty comments are just insecure and unhappy. I think you look great and there are no rules to follow unless they are self imposed. Love your haircut...so cute!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Suzanne!
DeleteI'm so glad you agree with me.
XXX
mwahaha, you look adorable, I love your attitude and love your necklace (what a perfect present!).
ReplyDeleteActually, I don't show my knees, nor my legs, because of my varicose veins (sun is not good for me!). But I do wear a bikini (c'mon, even my mom wears a bikini!) and I show my arms if it's hot and I feel like that!
besos
Fair enough Monica!
DeleteYou have to do what you feel comfortable with and what makes you happy.
All power to your Mum!!!
