The warmer weather is on its way.
Yesterday the sun was out (in my town) and plenty of day-glow Scottish skin was on show.
{It was only 14 degrees but we're a tough bunch and all rays count!}
Unfortunately, for any bloggers out there, this also means the summer blogging slump is on its way too.
Blog page visits can seriously suffer.
It's a real phenomenon that can leave some bloggers feeling discouraged... especially if your blog is on the smaller end of the spectrum.
The summer slump can also affect the earning power of bloggers who rely on their blogs as a source of income.
Page visits can bottom out and you can be left wondering what's going on.
Don't despair!
It's perfectly normal and happens to all of us... even the HUGE bloggers.
Just find some useful blog housekeeping jobs to do OR even have a blogging break... Gasp!!
What????
A break from blogging might seem like a step too far BUT if you're feeling discouraged (and frustrated) it might be just what you (and your blog) needs.
If you press pause on your blog the world won't stop turning and a blogging break might be just the ticket to get new creative ideas flowing.
You can come back fighting fit and raring to go!
{Find out 3 useful things to do during the summer slump HERE.}
Do you notice a drop in page views at certain times of the year?
Do you have any (big or small) blog housekeeping jobs to do this year?
Please share them in the comments.
I'd love to hear what you've got in the pipeline.
Now it's over to you...
Last week Linda's Chocolate Cheesecake made my belly rumble.
Two of my great (food related) loves combined!
Yum.
See her delicious recipe HERE.
LET'S GET CONNECTED!
It's funny you say this, because maybe we should be out and about too---enjoying life, right??

Hi Samantha, I do get a little bit disheartened when my stats drop, I'm not sure why though, ha! Thanks for hosting. Enjoy the weather. It has been beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteWe all do Claire!
DeleteIt's normal to think.... hang on , what am I doing wrong?
The good news is you're doing nothing wrong... it's perfectly normal!

I suppose I'm too new to have noticed it was a trend. I'd have thought I was doing something wrong. Thanks for pointing it out as a 'things.
ReplyDeleteIt's just a normal pattern that can come as a nasty surprise... we're doing nothing wrong, it's just everyone has something better to do than reading blogs! #picnic&party :oP

It's good to know it wasn't something I did wrong last summer! We should probably go with the flow too right? xx
ReplyDeleteHahahaha... Yes, going with the flow is the way to do it :o)
DeleteThere's very little we can do about it anyway, so why stress.
I plan to be chilling in the garden, with either a coffee or a glass of something chilled (depending on the time of day!! :oP)

The timing of your post is perfect for me today as I was sit here debating taking a blogging break this week. With my kids on Spring break all week and I am going away from Thursday to Sunday, I am wondering if a break would give me the breather I need. But, like most of us, I do hate taking a break because I do enjoy blogging so much! Now if I could motivate myself to write a quick post announcing said break, I would be golden! Thanks for this post, Samantha! Have an amazing week.

mwahaha, on the other hand, I've been visiting blogs more than usual, looking for inspiration now that spring has arrived, and I think that more people could do it too, because we need some extra inspiration to switch between seasons!
ReplyDeleteEven if people enjoy more outdoors activities, there's still time for some blogging!
besos
I think you're right Monica.
DeleteBecause the weather is so unpredictable in Scotland I'm never outside long enough to miss checking out my favourite blogs!! :oP

Would you believe that I've never taken a single blogging break, dear Samantha...and I've been at it for almost five years now?! But I'm heading to Toronto to visit my parents mid-May, and instead of struggling to squeeze in some extra photoshoots to tide me over - like I've done every other time I've gone on a holiday, I think I WILL take that break this time around. Posting on a fixed schedule has yet to miraculously boost my very modest page views...so I imagine NOT posting for a week isn't going to change my stats a whole lot either. I love my blog...but I deserve to enjoy some time off, too. Thank you so much for reaffirming that!! XOXO

Gosh it will be hard though Monika!! Especially if blogging is so embedded in your routine.
DeleteI hope you enjoy your break and come back refreshed and full of new inspiration!!!

I do beleive in taking blogging breaks. i think mostly technology breaks, especially when i am visiting family. i want to be present, and just need time to refresh as well.
