More Athleisure for Grown-ups! Sportswear in Real Life.

The term Athleisure is everywhere just now, but it can be hard to pull off.
Joggers can easily be unflattering, especially if your figure is falling short of perfect.... and whose isn't?

{I can easily look squared off, flat bummed and a little like an ironing board!}

Sportswear can also make you look like you are heading off the the gym, or you couldn't be bothered to get dressed today.

As someone who (almost) always puts comfort first, joggers seem like a great choice.

I have attempted the full-on athleisure look HERE, and loved the comfort....
BUT, prefered THIS smarter sports-luxe look (my feet disagreed though!).

Unfortunately, the shell-suit-esque feel of the full athleisure look made me want something a little more grown-up, and dare I say "Chic?"
Can athleisure ever look chic?

The easiest way to smarten up a pair of joggers is to add a pair of heels.
They don't need to be uncomfortable (like these killer heels) a little bit of height can work wonders!
These shoes are smart but still reasonably comfortable to wear.
Plus... they match my hair!

Mixing accessories like a sporty bag with a non-sporty necklace keeps things interesting.

A smarter jacket, teal sunglasses and a soft scarf, finishes things off nicely.

Does your figure suit joggers or structureless trousers?
How would you style these trousers?

  1. You've done a great job with the colour and texture mixing, it looks chic without screaming athleisure! The shoes and other accessories elevate the look. I couldn't go near trousers like that because they would make my little legs look very stout!

  2. ohhhh, such a lovely outfit, I think that this is really my kind of 'athleisure', comfy&cool with your genuine elegant style!
So fabulous color combo, so lovely matching accessories, adding lots of interest (that necklace rocks!!) and your shoes look stunning!
(I've worn something similar some days ago, mwahaha, even not so stylish!)

  3. Now you see this kind of styling takes it totally away from the shell suit vibe. In fact I wouldn't even think of this as 'athleisure' at all. Maybe it's the lack of trainers. I often style slouchy pattern pants with sandals and chunky jewellery in the summer and this is a great way to make the same look cross the seasons.

  4. Since track pants have made a come back I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of wearers sporting (pun intended) this sort of look. They won't be at the gym or running a 5k but instead going to work or meeting pals for lunch.
I really think that the fabric that the pants are made from will play a huge role in how they are worn. More stretch
will denote greater likelihood of actual sport purposing (?)
I love your styling here Samantha and although I do work out regularly I see myself more drawn following your lead!

  5. Such beautiful colours on you Samantha! You always accessorise to perfection as well... the necklace is a beauty!!

I LOVE joggers myself, and peg trousers too which are almost the same sort of shape. Perfect for hiding less-than-perfect hips and thighs which is all I ask for, really! ;)

  6. I don't have a pair of joggers...yet! But do you realize that my husband does? He didn't want to get them at first, but I twisted his arm. And I try to get him to wear them with heel (ha ha---not really), but I do try to have him wear them with dressier shoes than just sneakers!!
I'll have to showcase his on the blog next time I do a husband post!!
