Long-line waistcoats are such a useful piece of clothing to have in your wardrobe.
They offer great coverage, as well as a welcome layer of warmth.
They can also ground an outfit by adding a darker tone (or a neutral) into a colourful look.
And...
They don't swamp your style, like a full-sleeve cardigan can.
A 'proper' cardigan can easily hide the details of your outfit, and spoil your layering efforts.
A waistcoat offers the coverage (and the warmth) without stealing the show.
What's not to love about that?
I am a BIG fan of knitted waistcoats so when the lovely people at Cosy Cashmere contacted me to ask if I would feature one of their products I was happy to agree.
A great coverup, and in cashmere too....that gets a big thumbs up from me!
I chose this olive brown cashmere waistcoat because it is a very versatile colour, and works well as a cosy layer over a combination of two dresses.
Adding a fun necklace, and leopard platform heels, stopped things getting too serious!
A tweed bag and fun beret finished things off nicely.

I love a vest in any season, but have definitely been wearing them more this winter!!
ReplyDeleteI think they are a perfect option over a cardigan because then you don't have all the bulk on your arms!!
Love the shoes with this Samantha!!

Thank you Jodie. These shoes are usually (relatively) comfortable but today they were KILLING my feet!! What's that all about?? I had to change into my leopard ankle boots. I wonder why feet complain some days and are fine on others? XXX
DeleteI have a long waistcoat from Zara last winter, and I love it. There is something really elegant about them, I find. It certainly gives you many more styling options than a bulky cardigan or coat. I love how you've styled this beautiful cashmere one, and I adore seeing your gallery of previous ways to style them. Don't think I didn't notice the adorable necklace you're wearing... what a fab detail. xx
ReplyDeleteI like a "funny" necklace Lisa....I think they stop me looking too serious, or verging into frumpy territory!
DeleteI need to look in Zara more often. It's not a shop I normally buy from but I hear so many good things. Next time I'm in Edinburgh or Glasgow I will definitely pop in for a look. Thanks for the reminder. XXX
Love, love the long sleeveless vests, Samantha. And a cashmere one sounds so delightful! Thanks for linking up, xo

They are so useful aren't they Patti? XXX
DeleteI love waistcoats, and agree about their great layering qualities, they really add coverage and interest without the bulky factor!
ReplyDeleteIt's a lovely knitted piece and it looks cozy!, but your shoes steal the show, they're fabulous!
I like your tuxedo waistcoat too, such a cool piece!
besos
Thank you Monica...but these shoes were really sore today (they didn't last long) I'm not sure why my feet were having a protest but they weren't happy!! :oP XXX
DeleteI don't have a long sleeveless vest. I'm not sure why...Perhaps it's because our temperatures here in Minnesota can so often dip way below zero; it's just more practical to do a full on sleeve. The type of vest I wear regularly is a goose down, filled one! =)
ReplyDeleteYour outfit is great and I especially LOVED the tour of similar past stylings. Brown and blue are really nice together and a bit unexpected I think!!
Your little fish bowl necklace is such a charmer!!
Thank you Judy! He is a cutie, isn't he? :o) I'm so glad you liked my past outfits.... it was nice to go through them and remember. As for a goose down waistcoat...YES!!! I used to have one to wear under my heavy dog walking coat. Roasty toasty and so comfortable. XXX
DeleteI love vests but often find them impractical. Like Marilee I find that my arms freeze.
ReplyDeleteI like your beatnik outfit. Very hip! ; P
bisous
Suzanne
Heheheh....blue arms are never good Suzanne! :oP I can't manage without a layer (or 5) either :o). XXX
DeleteI have never even considered a sleeveless waistcoat. You just effectively shown me that that was a big mistake. In all your examples you look fab and everything you said about them is demonstrated. This new blue/brown outfit is so chic and with the beret so very French. Love it. Especially with those fun shoes.
ReplyDeleteGreetje
Thank you Greetje. They are super comfortable, hide an extra pound or two, cover the bum AND keep us cosy :o). I bet that if you get one you will love it! XXX
DeleteMy arms are always cold so I never really consider waist costs but this one is lush. I do like the lightness and elegance it adds, and well, cashmere! I'm a huge cardigan fan, but only ones with slim sleeves, I can't stand anything flapping around my hands...which would be another tick in the box for a waistcoat!!
