3 Ways to Wear Orange (or any Bold Colour)

What is your idea of the perfect 'Happy' colour?

For me, nothing makes me smile more than a splash of orange!

There are so many bold and beautiful hues to choose from but, no other colour shouts "Sunshine!" like orange.
Is there a more vibrant shade to wear?

Orange is, without a doubt, one of my favourite colours.

Orange is a warming colour.
It is full of positivity, and joy.
Orange is also a sociable colour, perfect for stimulating creativity and fun.
The ideal party colour!

Orange is the ideal shade to wear on a dull and dreary day.
Orange can lift your mood, and boost your confidence.

And, if confidence is lacking, orange can help you fake it!
What's not to love about that?

3 Easy ways to Wear Orange (or any Bright Colour)

1. Keep it Subtle.

If you're not 100% sure, try wearing a touch of orange as part of a pattern.
Wearing pattern is the easiest way to ease a bold colour into your wardrobe.
Using subtle shades of orange (like peach, apricot and rust) can also make it much easier to pull off.

2. Try a bold splash over a small area.

Adding a subtle dash of orange (or any bold shade) in the form of a top, scarf or accessory can bring your outfit to life.
Teaming a bold shade with more familiar pieces and more more muted tones can also make it much easier to wear.

A less subtle way to add small splashes is to have fun with orange arms and legs!

No, I'm not talking about dressing like an umpa lumpa!
Or, overdoing the fake tan.

Orange sleeves, or tights, can inject LOADS of fun to your look quickly and easily.
Especially if the rest of your outfit is quite muted and sombre.

{None of mine are, but you get the idea!}

3. Throw caution to the wind and be BOLD!

If you're feeling up for it, why not pile on the orange from head to toe?
Layering different shades of orange.
Clashing with some bold blue, or bright red.
Anything goes!
Wear your colour with pride, and have fun.

  1. You make orange seem so inviting! The great thing is you'very opened my eyes to how I can finally get to wear a cobalt dress that has languished in my wardrobe for three years. It would look great with an orange shirt underneath or orange tights and necklace. I will try it and send you the evidence!

    1. OOOOoooo...that sounds fabulous Gail! Perfect for a dull winter's day.
Please send me a photo. XXX

  2. Hmmmh? I have an oversized orange men's RL Polo sweater somewhere!

    1. That sounds like it has loads of potential. Oversized gent's jumpers look SO sexy on us girls! XXX

  3. I also love orange. I think redheads look great in orange and you've just proven that fact.

    1. Thank you Suzanne!
Sometimes my hair is more orange than some of my orange clothes :oP

  4. Orange is my number one favorite color! Love ALL your looks!

  5. Orange is such a vibrant color and it just brings energy and warmth to any look. It's actually more easily paired with other colors than one would think and you've done a masterful job of illustrating that here Samantha.
When my husband and I bought our very first house we painted one wall in our kitchen a brilliant red-orange. It was really GROOVY.
Color evokes such a wonderful little emotional kick. It's cheap, safe, stimulation and fun to play with and in!! I feel sad for people who are afraid to embrace it somewhere in their lives.

    1. Orange is supposed to stimulate the appetite too Judy, so perfect for your kitchen!
Getting you in the mood for eating :oD XXX

  6. ohhh, I'm loving all those orange shades and all the advice about how to wear orange, such a brilliant post!!
I'm a huge fan of orange, and I love to wear it with blue or teal, but also with black&white graphic ensembles, as a touch of bright color in a monochromatic ensemble, like this Orange Starfishes
    besos & naranja

  7. I could never seem to make bright orange work on me! Not like YOU can, Samantha! I could do with a little burnt orange, but when it comes to happy bright orange shades, I stay safe with accessories.

Last week I saw this cute little bomber jacket in this reddish burnt orange hue; I have no idea what I'm going to pair it with but this post makes me look forward to wearing it real soon!

Love this post and great tips (as always), Samantha!
