This vintage pencil skirt is one of those lucky charity shop finds that pops up now and again.
A perfect fit.
A classic, but colourful, pattern.
A gorgeous fabric (wool).
Well finished and beautifully lined.
A real gift!
Today I decided to try it with this purple peplum top.
{See this skirt styled here, here and here}
The top shares none of the virtues of this skirt... in fact, you could spit peas thorough it!
This top was also found in a charity shop, for £3.00.
A fair price I would say.
It even had it's original shop tags attached... £28.
Someone is having a laugh there!
When did palming off poor quality items at inflated prices become okay?
No wonder so many of us are such savvy shoppers and seasoned bargain hunters.
We don't appreciate being ripped off!
I paired the skirt (and top) with a few simple black pieces to give a wintery feel, and ground the whole look.
Popping on black over-the-knee boots and a thermal polo-neck.
A vintage leather tie made the perfect belt!
I love the look of OTK boots with a knee length hemline.
There is something very 'covered-up-sexy' about them.
These boots have such a lovely almond toe, and a real early 90's vibe.
That is because they are from the 90's... I know, because I bought them!
{See them styled here and here}
My fishbone necklace was the ideal finishing touch.
It snuggled into my neckline, not standing out too much.
Catching the light now and again.
Subtle but fun.
When I was wearing my pink leather gloves (without my coat) my husband said it looked like I had just come outside in the middle of doing the washing up!
I couldn't stop laughing.
{He is cheeky}
Hahahaha...
I must admit, he does have a point!
These gloves have been renamed my 'Marigolds'... I still love them though.
SKIRT: Vintage Windsmoor...this is nice.
TOP: Matthew Williamson... this looks cosier and better quality!
BOOTS: Vintage Topshop... These are lovely!
BELT: A leather tie from the 70's... here is a modern version.
GLOVES: A gift (similar)
NECKLACE: Tatty devine.
POLONECK: Uniqlo
Are you ever happy to pay just for the "name"?
Please share your thoughts in the comments.
I'd love to hear from you!

Wow...you had OTK boots in the 90's? You really are ahead of the times girl!!
ReplyDeleteI love this combination---I'm not sure I would have thought to pair the purple with the raspberry, but it looks marvelous Samantha!!

Thank you Jodie!
DeleteThere is a subtle purple fleck in the skirt too... which is more obvious in real life.
(you can see it on the hem in the boot shot)
So, I can't take ANY credit for colour mixing...it was all done for me! :oP XXX
Good for you for having the sound mind to keep those boots! They are stunning!
ReplyDeleteHight prices on clothing that is garbage is why I shop almost 99% thrift. Like you, I find most of my vintage items so very well made. It is hard to find a decent piece from after the mid 90's.
Ha ha! Your husband is a funny guy : )
bisous
Suzanne
You know exactly what I am talking about Suzanne! :oD XXX

ReplyDeleteThank you so much! XXX
Deletewow, I love this exclusive and very elegant look. It's nice with the long boots to the pencil skirt.
ReplyDeleteThank you Max, I'm so glad you like it. XXX
DeleteLove the skirt. It really is such a classic. I just purchased a black and gray hounds tooth pencil skirt at a consignment shop myself!
ReplyDeleteI have been coveting your fish bone necklace since the first time I saw it on you!!! I even tried to make one out of clay that you bake in your oven but it was an unsuccessful venture.
I just LOVE the shot of you laughing at your husband's cheeky humor. Your are darling Samantha!
I don't care about name brands and find the high prices on poor quality items to be really quite insulting. I always think, "just how stupid do they think consumers are????"
Hahahahaha...They have new stock Judy! :oD XXX
DeleteI love it when this winter skirt comes out to play! I remember it from last year I believe--another favorite styling. I love red and black, and now you've thrown in purple! I don't think I'd ever do that, but you make it work. Here's what your skirt inspired me to style last winter: My Love for Red and Black.
ReplyDeleteLove how you influence me Sam!
Love, Ann from Kremb de la Kremb
I remember that one Ann!
DeleteThose red lips and beautiful smile in that first photo were unforgettable! XXX
lovely color combo, purple and raspberry, and hot pink gloves!! and I'm loving your skirt every time it goes out for a walk!
ReplyDeleteI'm very conscious on quality when buying clothes, I always look for something durable!
besos
Love your color combo! Sometimes high end brands don't meet my standards of quality so it's best to choose quality as brands can be misleading.
