Welcome back to the fab 40's.
I am delighted to be part of this group of international bloggers, called The fab 40's.
The purpose of this diverse group is to show how eight (very different) women interpret a specific style.
{Although, we are a "man down" this time, see below}
Each month there is a new theme chosen by one of the group.
These ladies prove that being in your forties does not mean you have to be dowdy, frumpy, boring or forgettable.
All of these women are 40+ and fabulous!
Most of the ones I own are berets, or other winter styles, and I wear them for warmth.
It was great to be able to get my favourite hat out again, and wear it just "because".
Today's outfit came together with ease.
It (obviously) started with the hat, but it was the lips that came next.
Deep purplish-redish-pinkish-plum.
Perfect for Autumn.
{See my post about trying lipstick, here}
The floral skirt was sent to me by the lovely Ann (of Kremb de la Kremb... see more of her below), she knew I would love the colours.
Perfect for an autumn look.
I decided to pick out the subtle blue from the pattern, as a contrast to the warm tones.
Adding a green belt held everything together.
{See this belt here, here and here}
My sleeveless coat was the perfect coverup.
Not too heavy, but just enough warmth to stop my lips turning blue... not that you would know under this vibrant lippy!
Plum tights and my (now favourite) patent boots finished things off nicely.
{See a simple guide to wearing coloured tights, here}
Do you love the look of hats, but need some more outfit inspiration?
Well, check these out...
Sheela never fails to bring a fierce attitude to her outfit.
This outfit is very sexy...and looks like great fun to wear.
Definitely not a look for a wallflower!
Sheela knows how to have fun with fashion, and make a bold statement.
You must check out her blog if you are a high heels lover, but prepare yourself for serious shoe envy!

It looks so comfortable, and those shoes are fab!

Who else could pull off a turban?
The fact that the reset of her outfit is quite androgynous works well to contrast with the statement headwear.
Such an individual look.
However, shorts Annie??
I am in tights! :oP

That is one dandy hat, Sam, and I absolutely adore it. Seriously though, what a stylish man it'd be, to parade this in all its purple and coral glory!!! For once, I can't quite pinpoint which specific element of your outfit calls strongest to me, my friend, so suffice it to say that I am greatly enamoured of the entire look. Lock, stock and feather!! xoxo

There are some gorgeous gents hats Sheela... I just wish we saw more men wearing them! I am so glad you like it (That spotty feather is my favourite too!) XXX
DeleteI had to swing by and check out the whole look...you did not disappoint Samantha! Everything, literally everything, right down to the tights and lipstick is absolutely stunning. The entire look is simply perfection.

Wow Debbie! What a compliment. Thank you so much for your kind words :oD
DeleteThis hat is great fun to wear and calls out for purple (or bright red) lippy. No point in doing things by halves, eh? :oP XXX
I just new you would ROCK this skirt Sam! What's interesting is I never thought to pull out the pale blue in it, but of course it's there. Marvelous!
ReplyDeleteThe hat, well if I'm honest, which I will be, it's my favorite out of all of ours. Sheela's is a close second, but yours has got something really special to it. It suits you so well.
Guess who's up next month!? Me!!! Hehehe.
Love, Annie
Hahaha... thank you Annie!
DeleteI wanted to mix some warm and cool colours together and the pale blue was calling out to me.
Thank you for this skirt. It was the perfect partner for my hat... they were made for each other!
So.......what have you got up your sleeve for next month??? :oP
XXX
A lovely hat but it's also fabulous the way it goes with all the great colours in your outfit. Kx
ReplyDeleteThank you! This hat is my old favourite...although it is a lint-magnet! :oP XXX

DeleteSamantha I adore these colours on you - it's like autumnal jewel colours were made for you!! Plus could that hat BE any cuter?! It's got a lovely Bavarian boyish charm to it which suits you beautifully!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure you know I love hats too - I often feel "undressed" without one - so it's a big fat YES to hats from this gal!!

Thank you Catherine! You are a hat-master :oD...I think it is because you have such striking features that you can carry off most styles. I LOVE a flat cap on you and need to get myself one this winter. XXX
DeleteSuperb style
ReplyDeleteThank you Max. XXX

ReplyDeleteThis is such fun Nancy! Every month is full of surprises. I am so glad you enjoy it! XXX
DeleteYour outfit is spectacular Samantha. You're like an exotic pheasant displaying all the rich hues of fall in all their jeweled glory! The hat is the perfection. I so wish that hats would come back in a bigger way. They would certainly do the job of providing that extra layer of protection from the nasty UV rays!! There is a whole layer of chique added when we add a hat to an outfit.
ReplyDeleteI also love how Anne and Sheila were true to their own inspiration and I think the weather in their parts of the world played a role as well.

An exotic pheasant! Hahaha, I love that. :oP
DeleteI totally agree with you about hats. I wish they would come back too.
There seems to be plenty in the shops and people do buy them but I hardly see a soul in anything other than a skip cap or beanie.
The weather does seen to dictate out outfits, you are right there!
I am becoming aware of the fact that I am the cold-weather member of the group. I will be very interested to see what happens as the mercury continues to fall. :oD
Thank you for your comment, Judy... it is most appreciated!! XXX
By way of explaining my pheasant comment...My husband is an avid pheasant hunter. That season is almost upon us and he is readying our two English Springer Spaniels for going afield. I see LOTS of pheasants and I must say that you really come close to emulating the vibrant colors of these birds quite consistently through your colorful fashion choices! Another blogger who does this well is Anna od Anna's Island Style. Hmmm... You're both Scottish women. COULD there be something in the DNA???:-)
DeleteI also am of Scot and Irish heritage so perhaps that explains why I love the two of you so much!!

You look amazing in this hat and skirt! I am drooling over the fabulous skirt Ann gave you. Simply gorgeous. Your gentleman's hat suits you to a Tee. Loved this month's theme and cannot wait to see what Ann throws at us next.
ReplyDeleteShe is a clever cookie, isn't she Jennie?!
DeleteLots of pretty colours for me to play with... and a perfect partner for my hat.
Thank you so much for popping over to leave a comment. XXX

I LOVE cloche hats Jess! They are so beautiful but look terrible on me :o(
DeleteMy head is far to big and they don't make them for the gentlemen's section :oP XXX
I adore your hat, what a fun cloche for such a colorful ensemble! The Fab 40’s are certainly fabulous and creating within a group can be so rewarding. Thank you for sharing with Hat Attack!
