The Fab 40's
Today is an exciting day for me!I am honoured to be included in a group of international bloggers, called The fab 40's.
The purpose of the group is to show how different women interpret a specific 'theme' or style.
{There is a different theme every month}
This diverse group of fabulous women, highlight the joy of individuality.
Each lady is completely different from the next but they all prove how stylish 'real' older women can be.
40+ does not have to mean dowdy, frumpy, boring or forgettable.
I am thrilled to bits to have been invited along!
Red and Pink
This month the theme was wearing Red & Pink together.I don't mind admitting that I was very pleased!
Pink and red (especially red) are colours that I love to wear, and I often reach for these bright hues in the depths of Winter.
Red certainly adds some light relief to a miserable day.
{If you look carefully, you can see the rain in my photographs}
I chose to wear my tight pink dress again, which I wore in the post "How to be Braver".
It is double layered jersey and is meant to be worn either knee length and smoothed out, or ruched.
These ruched dresses are supposed to be super-flattering ...hmmmm.
I have to say that I find that they highlight lumps and bumps.
They even create lumps that I didn't know existed.
My 42 year old mother's midriff does not need any help in the lumps department!
For me, this dress was an expensive mistake.
So, to tackle this lumpy problem (and to stop this dress ending up in the donation bag) I always wear something over it.
I decided to wear a red shirt dress over the top today, keeping with the red and pink theme.
A chunky necklace added interest but also had the job of distracting the eye.
My red/orange coat seemed the obvious cover-up choice.
Let's talk about Ugly Shoes.
Okay, let's talk about a favourite topic of mine...Shoes.I have many pairs of shoes and boots.
They give me a lot of pleasure.
Some are practical, some a just beautiful and some are classic BUT, sometimes I just give in to an "ugly" shoe.
I can't help it!
Something draws me to the awkwardness of certain shoe styles.
Maybe it's the fabric? The colour? The cut? The geeky vibe?
Whatever it is, I just can't resist.
Classic pumps (or even an ankle boot) would have been more grown-up, and elegant, with this outfit.
I know that.
BUT, these wedge-heeled wallabees were calling my name!
They are cool, quirky and fun.
They may not be to everyone's' taste but I can't help it... I look down and I smile.
As soon as I popped them on, It felt right.
I looked at my golf-club-esque limbs and could not help but laugh.
Ugly shoes can be beautiful.
{Oh, and did I mention they are supremely comfortable AND I got them at a bargain-tastic 80% off!?}
I love that feeling.

I truly enjoyed your take on this month's theme - your dress and coat look wonderful together! Also, I couldn't help but smile over your description of the ruching effect of your dress. It does look quite flattering on you, in my opinion. Thrilled to be part of The Fab 40's with you and look forward to what's ahead. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Jennie. It is going to be lots of fun, that is for sure! XXX
DeleteSamantha...I'm not sure that dress was a mistake. I think it looks fabulous on you, and as a devil's advocate, I want to know what's wrong with lumps & bumps! I will argue that they make us interesting and real!
ReplyDeleteAs for the shoes---here's where I'm in the other camp! I'm not a fan, no matter what the price...they give me willies and nightmares! I love your brogues and boots! I love me a cute shoe ANY DAY....but these remind me a little too much of old lady wear!
But then again, it'd be so boring if we all dressed alike---besides the fact, I've learned never to say never!
Thus I give you a thumbs up!! jodie

Hahahaha....thank you for your honest opinion Jodie! I always value it.
DeleteI would have actually paid the full price for these shoes, quite happily. I may even go back for another pair in a different colour! Yikes...I can feel you grimacing :oD
I knew you would not be a fan, your love of feminine (and sexy) shoes is strong. These are certainly not a sexy shoe, although that is all in the attitude. Definate old lady shoes...Yes! Thank you. XXX
I'm with you on this one, Jodie. We all know how I like mah shoes GRIN
DeleteI guessed you might not approve, Sheela! XXX
DeleteBut we're still loving the dress Samantha...and you did make me laugh--so that counts for something!!
DeleteYou look fantastic Samantha - so incredibly happy and at ease with yourself; and the light! .. and the colours in the garden!! they set off the vibrancy of this combination to perfection.

Thank you Patti!! XXX
DeleteI've absolutely no idea what bumps and lumps you're referring to, Samantha. If those are your lumps and bumps, can we swap with my bumps and lumps then?
ReplyDeleteOn another less lumpy and bumpy topic, YAY!!! Welcome to the Fab 40s!! It's always such a pleasure doing joint posts with you and now that things are official, I couldn't be more pleased. You know how much I adore you. Your bold spirit. Your tenacious use of colour!!
Thank you so much Sheela! I am delighted to be part of the "new" group....I have the feeling we are going to be AWESOME!!! XXX
DeleteI also do not see any bumps that you are talking about, except for the lady bumps, and those are good! LOL
ReplyDeleteI really loved the whole outfit and then when I got to the shoes I figured you must have needed to walk extra far or something! Ha ha. Oops.
Props for just being yourself and wearing what you like. You always make it work.
bisous
Suzanne
Hahahaha...thank you for your honesty Suzanne!
Delete{and "lady bumps" made me grin}
I Knew that a "sexy" shoe would have won the style vote BUT I could not help myself.
Being myself.
Yes, you nailed it on the head....thank you Suzanne.
My Ugly shoes will be returning soon....maybe I could win you over?!?!?! XXXXXX
So excited to have you as part of our Fab 40's team! Love your edgy cool-girl style, Samantha! Thanks so much for the sweet complments. You made my day.

ReplyDeleteThank you Natalia! They are an amazing group of women. XXX
DeleteYou are such a great bunch. I "know" nearly all of you and love you all for your different approach to fashion. As for pink with red (and/or orange... I am all for it. Lovely bright combination. And don't worry about your clingy dress... it only shoes a terrific figure.
ReplyDeleteGreetje
Thank you so much Greetje! XXX
DeleteGreat to see you in this lively line up Samantha. I love the eye-popping brights you've assembled on this winter day. That coat is a dream, and the dress is very sexy - that was the point, surely? And I'm with you all the way on the ugly shoes - they're divine!
ReplyDeleteAnna x
Anna's Island Style
Yay!!! One vote for my ugly shoes...I suspect it might be the only one :oD. XXX
DeleteCrikey woman, if you think you have lumps and bumps, then I'm a tub of lard! That dress is serious on you! It's so easy to only see or focus on what we see as negatives or maybe not even negatives just those parts of us we wish were better or different but in reality nobody else sees them. They just see a woman confidently playing with beautiful colours and having fun! And these colours are gorgeous on you Samantha.
ReplyDeleteBut I'm with Jodie and Sheela on the shoes - heck, if they make YOU smile that is the most important thing and more power to you!
http://petitesilvervixen.blogspot.co.uk/
Thank you Jacqueline. I think these dresses can be really unflattering and I felt a little bump-tastic without my shirt dress over the top. Even my husband was not sure about the lumpage, and that is never a good sign. :oD XXX
DeleteHi Sam. Again no lumps and bumps, i do love the mix of that fabulous coat, the cool necklace and the dress, the shoes.. I had an exact pair except in tan years and years ago, you just made me remember! I love your confidence and smile as well
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up to MRS!
