When in doubt, wear red!

Wearing red from head to toe.

Styling bright red in Autumn/Winter.
On a dull, damp and dreich day the only thing for me to do is to wear some bright colour!
While many people automatically reach for the dark colours in autumn/winter, I instinctively reach for the more vibrant shades.
Dark days are gloomy enough.

BUT... you might be thinking:
"Light and bright colours in winter??"
"Are you crazy?!"
"You will get dirty and end up looking a mess!!"
But, those dark coats are also getting dirty.
Does dark and dirty look any less of a mess?

Anyway, modern fabrics mean you can buy something machine washable.
If you have a vintage item, invest in a clothes brush!
Or, the occasional trip to the dry cleaners.
It really is not such a big deal.

On this particular day, I was swithering between a bright orangey-red androgynous style and a full-skirted, super feminine, cream coat.
When the famous Bill Blass quote sprang to mind,

"When in doubt, wear RED"

Don't mind if I do, Mr Blass!
I will save my cream 'statement' for another day.

This coat is a full-on punch of (almost) neon orangey-red and I love it!
It has a masculine cut which looks good with trousers as well as skirts, and I must tell you about the wonderful deep and in the perfect position.
There is something very satisfying about a 'proper pocket' and it is so frustrating when a pocket is wrong. Whether it is an awkward angle or the wrong depth, it can be so disappointing.

Am I the only pocket-geek out there?
Please let me know if you agree!

It was pretty chilly today (and damp) so this burgundy scarf and fur-lined leather gloves were a must!
I was going to grab my red bag (see it HERE and HERE) but this pop of cheerful blue seemed a more interesting choice.
Adding a little fun!
I have searched and searched for something similar but I am struggling....this one is fun...but pricey. This one is just silly and tongue in cheek!
See my bag HERE and HERE.

This dress is very old.
I actually gave it away to a friend years ago.
She has a curvy figure, which gave this dress a bit more vaa vaa voom.
But, when I was at her house recently, I saw it hanging up looking unworn (but still fab) and I asked if I could borrow it back.
A little bit cheeky, but she knows it will be returned...probably with a bag full of other things too!

The dress is a soft knit and incredibly comfortable to wear.
{I should mention that the sleeves need a careful wrapping to get them into the a coat, without bunching}.
I love the mix of colours and I could have picked out many shades.
I was going to contrast the dress, with teal, but more and more red items just kept falling into my hands!
I could not help myself.

Red is the perfect colour to wear if you want to give the impression being confident and self-assured.

Even if you are faking it!

Red is energising, uplifting, warm, positive and stimulating.
The perfect confidence booster.
A brilliant mood booster.
You could conquer the world in a red dress!
{Don't forget that red is also a very sexy colour ;oD}

Sticking to the red palette, I added a red roll neck undertop, dark red tights, burgundy wool knee socks and my very old (favourite) boots...see them here, styled with white.

A subtle touch of leopard, in the form of a skinny belt, stopped me looking too much like an ironing board and gave this dress a little shape.

This cute red beret and a orangey-red lipstick finished things off perfectly!

Are you going to be wearing colour this Winter?
What is your favourite?

  1. You know I am all for colours.
    Looking wonderful in red Samantha

    1. I just can't get enough of it these days, Sacramento! I really need to try some new colours. XXX

  2. In Málaga there is a microclimate. It is never too hot; although it was hot last summer, or too cold. The lowest it might get is about 9 degrees.
At the moment we are still in short sleeves.
Ps How do you do the shop the look? I love it

  3. So how did you customize your jacket? I totally understand about the pocket thing....Nancy's pockets in her long jacket were way too far down to reach, but when we belted the coat---it brought them up nicely!
I'm a huge fan of color in the darker months too! Really---it only makes sense! Your red is wonderfully bright and fun! I'm much more conservative than you and thus wouldn't have thought to add red tights (probably because I do not own red tights) or a leopard belt. You sure know how to make an outfit sing!! jodie your nose pierced? I always wanted to do that when I was younger!!!

    1. Hi Jodie, I removed these strange straps from the sides which seemed to be at an odd angle and totally unnecessary. I also moved the buttons as it was a low double breasted fastening, which was too tight around my hips and puffy around my chest.... I don't know who it was designed for !? But i did get it for 75% off, so it was worth some simple changes!.
As for my nose...yes, I pierced it when I was in my late 20's and love it!
I will still be wearing it in my 80's (if I get there).
I think is is a little unexpected, which I like very much. XXX

  4. I Love your oufit... Those boots are just amazing...your hair color just makes the outfit pop....that bag is just so unique too!

    1. I am so glad you like my boots, they are my absolute favourites..I will be wearing them a lot this winter.. thank you very much for your lovely comments. XXX

  6. I subscribe this motto: when in doubt, wear Red!!, fabulous!! always love to wear bold&bright colors in winter, it makes everything more interesting!
Love how you've mixed different shades, orange-red, burgundy, tomato-red, and love how the whole ensemble looks coherent and chic!, and such a fabulous dress, those sleeves are amazing (even if they're impractical!)
And also love how your blue bag adds a touch of interest!

    1. Thank you so much... More and more red just kept coming!! I did laugh at my sleeve swirling, which I had to share. When I pulled my coat on quickly I produced huge shoulder pads from my dress funny! XXX

  7. I <3 this with a red heart and the red dancing emoji lady! Samantha, it's all so fabulous. I just tried on a red dress packed away in my wardrobe the other day. And now I vow to wear it ASAP and I will tag you when I do!

Oh, you really know how to do it! The coat, the beret, all of it! More style inspo for me!!

  8. What a wonderful outfit!! All that mix of glorious color is just amazing! And orange is my favorite color, with red being in the top four.

I saw your post in the What I Wore linkup. Here's my What I Wore post...

    Have a great day!

  9. Red certainly is a most energizing colour and has the power to lift even the darkest of moods. Great display of red in all it's glory, Samantha and I love that little detail of what looks like a leopard print or a printed belt at the waist. Mr Blass was certainly right!

    1. It is leopard print! Thank you for spotting that. I am so glad you agree that Red is a great shade!

  10. Lovely post today Samantha. Fabulous coat, and you were right to "borrow" your dress back again as it works beautifully. Boots, scarf and gloves all tie in so well. And I love the crazy bag which shows you're really having fun at dressing up.
    Anna xxx

  13. Great look! I love the reds on you!

I recently sorted through my sweaters, and I realized that most of my sweaters are very bold colors. I'm not really sure how that even happened, but then I realized that that's not a bad thing!

    1. It is not a bad thing at all, Andrea. Jumpers should be colourful for brightening up those dark winter days. XXX

  14. Hi from another pocket geek, a wrong pocket can drive me insane !!! I am a red lover and I can only adore your outfit, red puts me in a good mood, the coat is wonderful and how cute is your bag ? It's amazing ! Greetings from Italy :-)
