Styling vintage without looking like fancy dress.
Autumn layers, Girlfriend jeans, Stripes and a Houndstooth cape.Comfort won on that day!
I decided that I had to give them another chance.
They are so beautifully made, old fashioned patent leather (so soft) and pretty applique autumn leaves.
Unfortunately, they are only comfortable for short periods.
I am not sure why this is, but, I sensibly slipped a pair of black brogues into my bag for when my feet gave up on looking pretty.
During one of my charity shop trawls, this oversized shirt really caught my eye.
I have seen very similar designs on the high street, at various price points, but the quality of this item blew them all away AND, it was £2.00....now that is my kind of price point.
It is a punchy colourway, with a great combination of autumnal hues and a striking striped design.
Of course, I had to clash with a second pattern.
Adding a cosy layer with this houndstooth cape.
Capes are so handy.
Perfect when it is too warm for a coat.
Great over a jacket on a cooler autumn day.
Stylish on top of a plain winter coat on frosty mornings.
Fantastic at work in my draughty staff room!
The whole look needed pulled together with something casual and effortless, cuffed girlfriend jeans were perfect for this.
That 'thrown on' casual look works well with vintage items. It stops them looking too stuffy or like a fancy dress costume.
Plenty of room for all of my bits and bobs, and those spare shoes.
A chunky statement necklace finished things off nicely (see it here, with tartan, and here, for a wedding).
I made it until lunchtime before needing to change into my comfortable black brogues. Which, I have to admit, was longer than I expected!
And I did pop my heels back on in the evening, just to sit and look down at how pretty they are.
Do you ever carry a spare pair of shoes in your bag?
Or are you one of those lucky ladies who can wear heels all day and not end up with shredded feet?
Please let me know in the comments.... so I can be pea-green with envy!

Jeans: GAP.
Necklace: Topshop.
Wrap: Matalan (old) (I like this one...even though it is a gent's)
Bag: Martha Ponti
Shoes: Meadows (Ebay)
I can wear heels for maybe an hour!! Ha! Those are such beautiful shoes. :)

I am glad to hear that Jaymie! I am not alone :oD
DeleteThese shoes are so pretty....too pretty to sit sadly in a box.
I want to wear them a lot but my feet don't agree. Short bursts are enough.

Great shoes! I don't do well with heels and frankly don't wear them very often.
ReplyDeleteThat shirt is a great find!
Thank you Andrea! I wish there was a magic wand I could wave that made heels comfortable.
DeleteEven the (very) expensive ones are sore....fair enough, they are slightly less sore than the cheap ones but still nowhere near the "comfortable" zone. I have tried on various brands in numerous shops...all in the same of research, of course!
I have even tried the taping toes 3 and 4 together...it helps a little (but not enough).

I'm one of those that can wear heels all day, but I really think some of it is how you walk in them and stand. From pilates I've learned how to walk from heel to big toe (it's the biggest of the toe bones so can take the most pressure)---I used to walk on the outsides of my feet. Course it could also be my arch support and who knows what else!! Onto this outfit....I think this is one of my favorites of the last few weeks!! Something about those stripes & the shoes (I always try to analyze the why, but this time the emotion won out)....it's just absolutely lovely!! jodie

Oh Jodie....I am SO envious!!
DeleteI have a high arch and very few last's fit the shape of my foot (Topshop unique seem to fit well but I need to wait until they are in the sale).
You are a lucky lady.
Thank you very much for your emotion driven "like". I think you would probably easily walk all day in these beauties. I had to decamp to the comfort zone at lunchtime!

Really beautiful shoes, lovely color, and they look even cuter due to leaves detail.
ReplyDeleteYou rock your clash of patterns, love that striped shirt and your cape, they work nicely all together. And always love your accessorizing, brilliant!
And I can't wear heels!, but anyway I like to have a spare pair of shoes at hand. I have a pair of soft maryjanes in a drawer at my office desk, just in case. Very useful when I'm wearing a pair of boots in the bleak midwinter and then I go into our overheated office. Comfort!!
besos
Thank you so much!
DeleteI do love to get two or three patterns into an outfit....it keeps the eye moving, which is a good thing!
I am all for comfort too, but sometimes I will suffer for a few hours just to wear something special (spares are always to hand!)
Thank you for your lovely comment.

Well, after my recent Bittersweet Shoes review post of those divine looking but totally unwearable leopard print shoes, you know my feelings about uncomfortable shoes! These are lovely though, what delicate leaves in beautiful colours - they look like enamels. Hurrah for more charity shop finds! Great combo here with the shirt and the cape. I'm having that bag after you've finished with it!
ReplyDeleteAnd your photobombing pooch is adorable. What is pooch's name? I think you've mentioned it but I can't remember!
I know, I know! You are right BUT these are just so pretty...sigh.
DeleteI did have to give my feet some TLC later in the day (poor things).
I love a good rummage in a charity shop, an Aladin's cave of potential.
My pooch is Called Jake, he was very interested in the going's on....I have a haloween costume lined up for him, so he may get his own shot soon. I think it might be my turn to photobomb!

Well, right now I'm permanently in tennies, but yes. I name my shoe by the hour--sometimes minutes. I have this fabulous, over-the-top (literally, they're so high!) pair of red heels. They're for standing only and for 30 minute tops. OH, but they're oh, so fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad about these lovely shoes. They're precious. I hate that. But brogues--can't go wrong!
Super cute outfit!! And that pooch! He's pretty adorbs too.
Love, Ann from Kremb de la Kremb
Thank you Ann!
DeleteHahaha I love the idea of totally ridiculous (and RED) shoes that are your 30 minute shoes.
They sound like a shoes that makes you happy anyway....you don't need to wear them out (they would only get scratched!). I think of shoes like that as part of a collection. Some people collect teapots or hatpins....we get to wear some of ours!
Thank you for your comment.
I told Jake you thought he was cute and he sends you a woof and a wag of appreciation!

Sam, I love the caramel and black striped top, such a fall look especially with those lovely shoes, the fall leaves on them are just perfect! I am certainly the type to carry spare shoes with me We often go places where I want to wear even a small heel, but cant walk around a vineyard like that! So shoes and sometimes shorts are packed away in the car THe houndstooth is a great pattern mix with the carmel top and you know I love all shades of burgundy! Great find

Thank you Jess... these shoes are so pretty and I love the leaves too.
DeleteI thought I could rely on you to have a spare pair stashed away.
I can't imagine that vineyards and kitten heels go very well together...much like my lawn and stilettos!
Hahaha

You do pattern mixing so well. What a bummer about these heels that they are uncomfortable, they are so pretty.

Your vintage shoes are simply Gorgeous! I wear heels all day pretty much every day (usually at least 4") with no problems. I do keep a pair of flats with me always in case I have to do an excessive amount of running around. I need your houndstooth cape. :) I am so glad capes, wraps, ponchos, etc. are so on trend at the moment.
