SHOP less STYLE more! | Re-style your Wardrobe Turkeys!

Shop less and Style more | Silver maxi and cream camisole | Fake Fabulous

This silver skirt is one of those pieces that should be getting worn and worn ... on repeat.
It has all the hallmarks of a classic go-to item in my wardrobe.

  • A great multi-seasonal maxi cut... perfect shape from summer into winter.
  • A sturdy(ish) and fully-lined fabric.
  • A fabulous neutral (yet bold) colour... silver goes with everything!
  • Plenty of personality, shine and swish.
BUT...
It's a bit of a wardrobe turkey.

No offence to our wattled friends but this skirt is challenging me when it comes to styling.

The only time I've felt really fabulous in it was HERE... and that's a Halloween costume!
{Not exactly a ringing fashion endorsement.}

I've worn it HERE with a black and silver jumper and HERE with lots of BLUE.
(I miss the silver trainers in that silver/blue outfit!)

However, it's not been worn enough.

I'm determined to shop less and style more this year so this skirt is going to get forced (yep, I said forced!) into various outfits whether it likes it or not.

To be honest with you it feels refreshing to make myself wear items that have been doing too much lurking and not enough working.

It's a shame to keep this silver skirt hidden away so today it's coming for a late-summer outing with a simple camisole.

Adding a pair of converse keeps that casual feeling going.

SKIRT: old... charity shopped but originally from M&S.
TOP: Also years old... from George at Asda.
SHOES: Missoni at Converse... charity shopped too (Read about them HERE)
BAG: older than time itself... originally Topshop I think!
NECKLACES:  A gift.
COAT: Topshop (also old....surprise surprise!)

The rain came on again as we took these photos highlighting the fact that this fabric is not so great in the rain.
Every drop shows up!
The good thing is that it dries really quickly and doesn't mark.
Swings and roundabouts eh?

  3. I have duds that I am weary of forcing into outfits and am just going to let go of them. Someone else may get more joy out of them than I am. But I'm all for really really really trying to make things work before throwing in the towel!

Looking forward to seeing more of the silver skirt! I think it would be nice under a loose, chunky rust pullover sweater w some booties...and of course there's always the graphic tee and denim jacket standbys that seem to go well over EVERYTHING these days!

  5. I have a couple of skirts like this too - and yes, they are a challenge! I'm thinking a graphic tee and chunky sandal, or a cropped fuzzy sweater and pretty ankle boot.

PS - LOVED your Hallowe'en costume!

  6. Is it too obvious to say how lovely this skirt would be with any top with some lurex thread? A short chunky sweater in a pale ocean blue or green would also be lovely. Those little sneakers are inspirational!

  7. I am sorry to say but this is not one of my favourite items to see you wear. You have so many lovely clothes but I feel this is colouless and does nothing to attract the eye. For me you always have a WOW factor, but not in this. Sorry. Regards - Jill stylishatsixty

  8. I've laughed at the idea of a 'Wardrobe Turkey'. Probably because I'm not a native english speaker I find some expressions really funny!
And I also have this kind of clothes in my wardrobe, really difficult to style even if they have all the good qualities.
You look really elegant in all those neutral colors and love the cool detail of the converse sneakers, that's brilliant. But I have to confess that I prefer this skirt in the blue outfit, probably because of the blue cobalt color (you know I love that coat!)
