Often, a classic party dress is too impractical for the occasion.
Depending on the venue, bare legs, toes, decolletage and arms might result in loss of limb due to frostbite!
I can't stand being cold, and would never bare all if I thought there was a chance of feeling the chill.
This is where a sparkly knit comes into its own.
I'm not talking about Christmas jumpers here (Find out why I'm not a fan)

This jumper is perfect for those not-so-warm celebrations because you can hide a few cosy thermal layers underneath... which I did!
I've worn it loads of times, with various different bottoms, but today I'm styling it with a swooshy skirt for a feminine feel.
I love this skirt, it's a decent weight and fits well (although it's HUGE, I had to get a UK6 and I'm normally a UK10 so be aware of that if you like the look of it).
I also love the swoosh... BUT, it has a white underside to the fabric which ruins it slightly for me.
The white seems to make it feel unnecessarily cheap looking.
Why not use a red or black base?
{Luckily it only flashes when you swoosh about like a goof... see below!}
Simple opaque tights and some metallic boots finished this outfit off with ease.
It's a comfortable and, most importantly, warm outfit that is easy to throw on.
Perfect for a casual get together.
What would you wear to a casual (and chilly) Christmas event?

DeleteI wear a lot of layers! A dress with a cardigan and then layers under the dress! By preference thick tights, 60 denier, but that is not always very elegant, so I will skip that sometimes. Love your top!
ReplyDeleteThick cosy tights all the way for me Nancy!
DeleteElegant of not, I'd rather be warm :oP

Oh my goodness that is my all time favorite outfit ever!! Who doesn't love some sparkle? Also I have intense boot envy!! Nowhere could I ever find these here in the Pacific Northwest USA 😣 are you letting your hair grow, it always looks wonderful whatever length! I'm beginning to sound like a groupie! You are certainly an inspiration. Merry Christmas too!!xx
ReplyDeleteThank you Mary... I'm sure we could track these boots down for you with a bit of online investigation. Suely anything can be sent anywhere these days??
DeleteThank you for your kind comments about my hair.
I am growing it a little... but have just had an undercut to easy the transition (not in these photos).
I must admit that it's driving my nuts though.... too puffy!!
Have a lovely Christmas.

The way you address the "cold" and the challenges of looking stylish despite the
ReplyDeleterisk of freezing off one's tush is practical inspiration Sam!
This is a sophisticated look with just enough sparkle to be festive and cheerful. Your boots and that skirt provide such great metallic shimmer (that red is gorgeous!) and the sweater is a perfect compliment. You're quite perfect and warm too!! WIN/WIN!!!
Thank you so much Judy... It can be a challenge at times but I refuse to pretend I'm warm with bare legs just so a dress looks better. It's just not me.... PLUS, my skin goes blue and goose-pimply in the cold which is definitely not chic!!!!
DeleteHave a lovely Christmas.

Deleteoh I adore this outfit Samantha - sparkles and leopard (especially in RED) is soooooo fabulous! It's a bit of a saucy outfit without flashing the flesh, it's so demure...!! ;)
ReplyDeleteBut YES about the white lining... why white?! How bizarre!

Not Dressed As Lamb
Isn't it?
DeleteIt really annoyed me.
I could understand if the leopard had white in it and that was needed for the base but it's black and red... I'm still scratching my head.
Thank you for your lovely comments Catherine.
