I love a red dress.
Not just for party-time impact but for everyday wear too.
{Find out why I prefer a red dress to a black one HERE}
Red is a powerful colour, that packs a real punch, giving you the confidence to stride out and face the day.
Red is my go-to colour when I'm not sure what to wear.
You know the famous phrase, don't you?
"If in doubt, wear red!"
Today I'm wearing a dress from one of my favourite brands Alie Street, and I'm SO comfortable it feels like I'm cheating a real outfit!
There is nothing digging in, squeezing or pulling... this is what every outfit should feel like.
{Notice my well-behaved photobomber?}
I'm layered up to the max here but there is very little bulk because the layers are fine gauge and very carefully tucked in!
I've got a thermal base layer and leggings underneath this dress.
(It was 2 degrees in this photo)
I'm also wearing a grey polo-neck top and long wool socks under my boots.
The realistic requirements of dressing for autumn in Scotland (layers, thermals, waterproofs) can be just as nice to wear as skipping about with bare skin.
I love a secret layer, or two!
I also love mixing warm and cool tones together and often do this in my outfits, it just seems to work well, adding interest to any look.

I'd love to know the colours you would choose to complete a look you'd feel good in!

I love a red dress too but I've yet to find one that I love! This one is gorgeous and I love that you've dressed it down. It really looks fab with the grey top and tan boots. I would never have believed it was only 2 degrees!
ReplyDeleteSuzy xx
Scottish autumnal sun is the best Suzy... so pretty but it was BALTIC.
DeleteThere had been frost earlier.
Autumn is my favourite season :o)

I hardly ever wear red! But when I do, I like it , surprisingly. The design of your dress is very nice, the belt reminds me of Twiggy somehow.
ReplyDeleteNow that you say that I agree Nancy!

I do love a red dress and I have one similar from Alie Street. I like the idea of the polo underneath and I will give that a try I think. xx
ReplyDeleteI hate being cold Laurie and seem to be wearing a polo under most things!

Ooh, I love a good red dress! This is a lovely one - reminds me of a yellow one I had in 1985. Layering is the key with a simple dress like this. It would also look fabulous with a blazer over it. I'm really liking the mixed neutrals (grey/tan) here, too, Samantha. Here on the We(s)t coast of Canada, it's raining pretty much from September to April, so I hear ya on the layers. I live in layers this time of year!
ReplyDeleteLayers are our best friends aren't they Sheila?
DeleteAnd waterproofs!! :oP

It's a revelation that red is your go to color because I've assumed it was the cobalt blue. I just love it when you start piling on the thermal layers Samantha. You do am amazing job of tucking because you look smooth and svelte as ever.
ReplyDeleteAre you wearing your hair a bit shorter and with a bit more angles/contours around your face? It's darling even if it's not new.
Red is a warm, flattering and strong color and this outfit really suits you.
Thank you Judy.
DeleteYes my hair is shorter with a slight undercut... I think the face bits just flopped there on their own.
I let it do it's own thing most of the time.
Hair styling is a losing battle for me :oP

DeleteHi Sam,
ReplyDeleteBack from my trip. I am trying to make my rounds! LOVE the red dress and the layering on you. I am a fan of the LRD instead of the black as it is a more flattering color on me. The addition of plaid works so well!
