Stylish in their day (a homage to the film stars of the 40's) twinsets served a purpose, but were certainly nothing you wanted to wear back in the day!
Roll on 30 years and twinsets are slowly becoming more appealing to me.
BUT... I'm certainly not interested in wearing anything sensible or age-appropriate.
I'm wearing my twinset with a ruffled mini and bare (over 40) legs.
What a Rebel!
Adding a simple satchel and some cute Missoni-patterned Converse made for a fun outfit!
SKIRT: Asos
SHOES: Converse X Missoni (these are similar)
TOPS: Charity shopped... similar top and cardigan.
BAG: Cambridge Satchel Company
Do you remember any elderly relatives wearing twinsets, maybe with pearls?
Would you wear one now?
I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Gasp! I ADORED twinsets! I still have a couple in a "not right now" tub somewhere. I loved the easy elegance of them. A grey cashmere twin set with a string of pearls - BAM - I could go anywhere. I had a pale pink silk knit twinset that I'd wear over a full-length grey taffeta skirt - that was my wedding guest outfit for YEARS. But...I'm older than you so that look was more acceptable when I was an adult...you were probably younger at that time. I love how you're breathing new life into the set here, over the flirty skirt!

Ooooo.... Your wedding guest outfit sounds gorgeous!! ❤️
DeleteI didn't know a pair of matching top + cardi is called "twinset", actually! I used to wear them when I was younger but needed to look modest, during Eid etc.. Twinsets are not so common over here but I see them a lot in movies and I've always thought they were adorable, regardless of the age of the person wearing them. I actually just saw a pair in an episode of FRIENDS, the one Phoebe wore when she met Mike's parents - very similar to what you're wearing here!
ReplyDeleteI have to gush over your sneakers - OH EM GEEEE love love LOVE. I didn't know Converse collaborated with Missoni, clicking on the link you provided to check it out!

Thank you Liyana... I'm glad you like these Converse. I found them brand new in their box in a charity shop for £5. I was jumping around like a loon! X
DeleteOh my goodness LUCKY YOUUU, I would've been jumping around too and dancing in the charity shop if it had happened to me!
DeleteI really love the way you have combined your twin set with mini skirt and Converse, very original! I am drawn to contrasts between elegant and grungy so might try a twin set with some roughed up jeans, you have inspired me!
ReplyDeleteI may need to 'borrow' that idea Rozanne! ❤️
DeleteFabulous! I adored twinsets and had several, both in solids and patterns as well as different lengths. They were a great alternative to the typical "office suit".

I can see that working really well Rena. I'm coming round to this twinset malarkey! ❤️
DeleteI worked in clothing retail around the time twinsets were last in style (1999-2001) and wore them all the time for work. They are really versatile and lend a classy air to any outfit. I love this funky look, Samantha - yes to bare legs!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you agree Sheila!! ❤️
DeleteWhen I started teaching I remember having a twinset that was l lovely pale green and I wore it often. I recall that it was one of the few garments in my small wardrobe that had a professional teacher look.
ReplyDeleteYou look very cute in this set but he really great spark of this outfit is that Converse. A touch of whimsy always pops a conservative piece nicely.
You're right Jude... A contrast is always more interesting! I'm glad you like my converse... Thrifted for a few pounds and brand new 😊. Xxx
DeleteCan you believe that I first saw a twinset in the UK? Like 37years ago?? And I loved it! I was a punk back then, and I loved a twinset. I have always loved contrasts in outfits! I adore yours!
ReplyDeleteNow that sounds like an interesting outfit Nancy... Punk meets ladylike! Love that idea!! ❤️
DeleteYou look so young! Love your style and the way you team turquoise tank top with a ruffled star-floral skirt and cool trainers.
