How to Dress like a REAL Blogger!

Dressing like a real blogger | Fake Fabulous

How many times have you seen posts online, magazine articles or brand's websites giving you tips on...

"How to Style it like a blogger!"

How often have you found items marketed as..

"A Blogger Favourite"

For some reason bloggers are portrayed in the media as magical creatures that, with a half tuck, a few pins and a quick ruffle, can transform the most basic of basics into something edgy.... and utterly fabulous.

So, How DO real bloggers wear clothes?

Real bloggers wear clothes just like you and I!

I'm a real blogger, and I wear my clothes like this.

If YOU write a blog (or hope to start one) then you will be a real blogger too.... and you will wear your clothes how you love to wear them.
By the same token, if you never want to blog and just enjoy reading blogs then you are dressing "Like a Blogger" too.

It's a simple as that!

What I'm trying to say is there is no such thing as 'blogger style'... just the personal style of someone who happens to write a blog.

There is no such thing as 'Blogger Style'... just the personal style of someone who happens to write a blog!

You may read your favourite blogs and fall in love with the looks BUT, even if you love the way an outfit looks, copy every piece from it, and wear the items in exactly the same way as your favourite blogger, you still won't look like them.

You will look like YOU.

Your own personal style will put it's own spin on the clothes, you can't fight it.
Your style is within you, in your personality, and effects everything from the way you walk to the way you smile.
Embrace it.
Accept it.
Love your (imperfect) self.

There is no denying that it is great fun to be inspired by blogger's outfits BUT, it's enormously important to only ever wear things that make you feel great.

Because, no matter how fabulous that dress looks on someone else, if it doesn't make your heart sing it just isn't going to work.

{AND... if the blogger/model has been pinned and photoshopped then you don't have a hope in hell of making the outfit work anyway... that's a post for another day though!}

How DO you dress like a real blogger then?

Pick clothes you love and wear them the way YOU want to.

Today's 'Real Blogger' outfit is a simple grey jeans and baggy jumper combination.
It was verging on sloppy before I added my sharp orange/red coat, and snow leopard bag.

Is it a snow leopard pattern? I'm not 100% sure... please let me know!

In the true spirit of fake fabulous, I faked a smarter look with a couple of pieces that added zing to this plain outfit.
Imagine how "Yawn" it would have looked with a dark coat and plain bag?
Real Blogger Style in action! 😜

  1. This is such a great post, Samantha! I love that you say "pick clothes you love and wear them the way YOU want to". Too often we worry about what others think or compare ourselves to others, but it's so true that we should all wear what makes us feel great! Love your jumper and the bag is gorgeous too! XXX

    1. I know Sasha... I used to worry.
Now, I feel free to do what I want to do... it's a great feeling but take time and effort to achieve.
Thank you for your kind words.

  2. What a perfectly cool sweater you're wearing my dear!!:-) I can just see you snapping it up and perhaps simultaneously hatching the idea for this post. It's refreshing that you chose to remind your followers of the reality of owning your own style. Being intrigued, inspired, and influenced is fun but ultimately you must wear your own style, your own skin, your own mind and be your own selfie!

    1. Thank you Judy... I bought it for fun but have worn it loads and only recently thought of this post (as I was writing it, as per usual). I'm not much of a planner TBH.
More of a spur of the moment, straight on the paper (computer) type of person.
      Be your own Selfie!
      I love that.

  3. I totally agree with you! The greatest blogs to see and to read are the ones where the blogger shows who she is, who she is without camera too! With outfits that inspire and are for,,real LIFE,,!

    1. That's true Nancy!
I know I love my favourites because they look relatable and real.

  4. You look positively adorable in this outfit sweetie. Also love your message so much. You are so right we are all just real people and anyone writing a blog is a blogger, no magical creature, just someone with their own passion for fashion.
Wishing you a wonderful week ahead dear!

    xoxo Yvonne

    1. Thank you Yvonne.... although in some of your photographs you are so far off the ground... are you SURE you're not one of the magical ones?! :oP

  5. Such a great post, Sam! I agree completely...our style is within us. Being inspired by others is such a natural thing...then add your own twist, your own bit of personality...and we are all fake fabulous, no?!

    1. Be inspired & add your twist.... perfect advice Shelbee!
I think we are all Fake Fabulous for sure :oP

  6. How very true, we all dress like bloggers, because there's no rules yay! Thanks for sharing this cool look. x Jacqui

  7. Cool look. Love the powerful color of the coat! Great styling!

  8. I love your style and how you add zing to any outfit with your personal fabulousness!, picking a red coat and a cool bag looks like a perfect accessorizing in action!
And I never understand what's exactly that 'blogger style' thing. There's a million different bloggers out there, and most of them have different styles and look genuinely different from each other. Blogger style means lots of things!

  9. Hi Sam! I am loving your bright red coat and combat boots. The sweater is fun too! i know it is funny when i read those you are so right various bloggers, various styles all unique to their own.
    thanks for linking!
    have a good weekend
