If you're anything like me, some days you'll feel like wearing something a little different.
Something different from your usual style.
Colours a little different from your usual choices.
Shapes that are different from your usual silhouettes.
Today was one of those days.
This silver maxi skirt may be a change from the norm, but it is always so easy to wear.
Maxi lengths give great coverage, with zero effort.
No need to worry about tights, or the state of your legs... (goodbye big bruises).
Easy peasy dressing!
Silver looks great with blue (see THIS POST) but today I went against the norm (when it comes to my colour choices) and chose black.
Black isn't a colour I normally reach for.
To be honest I don't really like it, and it doesn't flatter me at all.
BUT...
It's easy enough to make any colour work for you, even if it's not your best colour.
I just added a lighter coloured scarf near my face, to soften the harshness.
{See how to make black work with pale skin HERE.}
A silver maxi skirt may seem quite dressed-up for everyday, but items like these are easily dressed down for daytime.
Adding a quirky t-shirt, and a casual backpack, made this skirt feel more daywear and less 'Hogmanay party!'
Simple flat shoes, and a striped belt, finished things off nicely.
When was the last time you wore something different from your normal style?
Please let me know in the comments... I would love to hear about it!

I love that you encourage us to wear 'something different', so inspiring!. And you rock that black and silver combo, with a fabulous accessorizing!, the shoes, the backpack, the belt and bijouterie, everything enhance the coolness!

I had to look up Bijouterie!
DeleteHahaha...thank you for teaching me a new word.
The necklace is a (very) old magnifying glass that belonged to my husbands great granny!

you're welcome!

I love this outfit. You look like a moon goddess. Shimmer, and light and shadow like a half moon. The t-shirt echoes the theme, as does the silvery scarf.
ReplyDeleteMoon goddess?! Wowee... I love that analogy.
DeleteHalf light, half shadow.... just like the human psyche too!
What a fab comment!
Thank you so much Kathleen.

Oh Samantha, fantastic job on the "balancing act"! That looks like a seriously cute top, have you ever styled it on this blog before? (Or perhaps it's a new top?)
ReplyDeleteBelting a scarf is a favourite style trick of mine that I see on street-stylers, but since I wear a scarf on my head it always looks like overkill whenever I try the trick on myself - oh well!
And oh, you honestly have the best collection of Clarks shoes! I love love love popping into Clarks but even during sales they're always a little too pricey for me =( But I do know that Clarks shoes are a lot cheaper in that side of the world; I had a cousin who used to live in Ireland and she brought back Clarks shoes for my mom whenever she's visiting home!

No, it's new.... £1.99 in the Zara sale.
DeleteApparently people expect TWO sleeves on a top :oP
As for the scarf belting issue:
Could you not wear a REALLY long scarf and leave a piece to hang down to belt?
I'm really surprised that Clarks is more expensive for you. I thought everything was more pricey here.
Everything feels expensive and the costs increase and wages are frozen.
Sales are the best places to buy clarks, especially if you know your size.
This pair were from ebay.

I love this look! I love the contrast of elegance and casualness. I can't say if I ever really wear things that aren't my "norm" because I don't have a set style. I have very eclectic taste...I like everything and I wear a bit of everything... Boho, conservative, preppy, rocker...you name it. Whatever suits my mood.
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is a testimony to your creativity and amazing ability to think outside the fashion box. That silver skirt is going to be fuel for lots of interesting and unexpected combinations from you! The top is SO cool and it has that nonconforming vibe that fits you so well. If Scotland were a tad warmer I think you'd be styling this top a lot more in the coming months (?) Another unusual aspect of this outfit is the lack of bold color that we've come to expect from you. I LOVE your unpredictable nature Samantha and I LOVE this look as well!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful look! Love that skirt and your top :)
