Every now and again I like to try something completely new.
Something I would never normally look at.
A totally different style.
Something not very "me" at all!
{See this post and this one for more ideas, and this one about being braver!}
This top is not my usual style at all.
The colours are muted.
The shape is smock-like.
It's very boho chic.
BUT...
The beautiful aztec embroidered detail of this top really caught my eye.
The fabric feels soft, and the warm tones appealed to me.
Trying something new is always a good idea, even if you are supposed to be shopping for someone else!
{This blouse seemed to find it's way into my trolley when I was shopping for stocking fillers... oopsy.}
The easiest way to try something new is to pair it with something old, and very familiar.
Something comfortable and friendly.
I needed some "old friends" to make this outfit work.
The only way for me to wear such a spring-like piece is to add plenty of cosy layers.
A peach ribbed top and my usual thermal base layer worked well to keep me warm.
My "old friends" were these (very) old jeans, and faithful 'ugly' shoes.
They are the perfect partners for this new addition.
{Read about my ugly shoes HERE}
I'm wearing a pair of knee-highs (gasp!).
Granny pop socks??
Yes!
Not sexy, I know, but they keep you warm.
Remember that only great quality ones look decent.
(Don't waste your money on those nasty multipacks)
A sneaky trick!

Such a simple look for a mild winter's day.

You're very brave to try new looks. I hardly ever do....on the rare occasions when I buy something a bit left field, I never really wear it.
ReplyDeletePeach really suits you!
And great tip on pop socks for which I've always had a sneaking regard.
That sometimes happens Gail, but the fear of being in a rut scares me more than making a style-mistake :o) XXX
DeleteJust the thought of wearing nylons with shoes makes my feet get blisters. That must just be me.
ReplyDeleteI agree...stepping out of one's comfort zone allows one to experiment and grow.
Funny how you were shopping for someone else...and then it landed in your cart. That is my excuse!
bisous
Suzanne
Great excuse, isn't it!? XXX
DeleteYou have unknowingly hit on a style/genre that I am absolutely NUTS about!! I'm certain that I've mentioned that I'm a sucker for all things embroidered, but I may not have said that anything that has a "tribal" flair falls under my "passionate for" category. I'm in love with the colors,the expression of cultural traditions and the skills and artistry required to create many of these pieces.
ReplyDeleteI don't just love the fashion but also jewelry, rugs, textiles, wood, pottery and metals. I guess the term "Bohemian" is typically used to describe this taste proclivity, but for some reason I find that label too much of a generalization.
Anyway Samantha, you look very sweet in this top. I encourage you to continue your explorations with this look!
By the way, if this is a recent photo it doesn't look like there's much chance of snow for your Christmas! You have a lot of greenery left!! How lovely!!!
Happy Holidays to you and your family!!
These photos are from Saturday Judy and it was quite mild... Luckily we had a nice frost this morning. The greenery is my husband's work. He picks hardy evergreen plants so we have colour all year round.
DeleteI'm so glad you like this style! XXX
You look great in this out-of-your-comfort-zone top. And I love how you layered it to stay comfortable. "It just fell in my basket" is my new explanation when shopping. xox

Hehehehe...a great excuse Patti! XXX
DeleteI think the smock top is adorable, so I'd say your 'trying something new' paid off well! I like how the lines at the front gives the illusion of you adding a matching bolero. And I never say no to "ugly" shoes myself (trendy "ugly" shoes are always 'in', after all!).
ReplyDeletePS: I've been meaning to say, your hair is growing out beautifully, Samantha!
I love this outfit! And especially dig the shoes. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteI love how you've made this smock work for you. I think you look great in it. Embroidery items are so now. I might be a bit braver too and get one xx
