A simple geometric knitted dress, and patent ankle boots, made the perfect outfit for a casual dinner with friends.
So comfortable and easy to wear.
No restricting tailoring.
Nothing digging in.
Plenty of room for my food baby!
The restaurant (in the local pub) can be a little cool and airy.
So, a lightweight (but warm) outfit was needed.
This particular dress is comfortable and forgiving.
The geometric pattern confuses the eye, distracting from any developing tummy!
A simple pair of patent leather boots and opaque tights kept things cool and modern.
My caged clutch, large hoops, and black nails, finished things off perfectly!
The food was great... I had scallops.
The wine was delicious (A New Zealand sauvignon).
We enjoyed plenty of laughs (some of them were quite cheeky!)
We had oodles of girl chat (some of which developed into interesting debates).
And, to top it all off, we won the pub quiz!
{Although, to be honest, my contribution to our victory was minimal.}
All in all it was a very enjoyable night.

That dress is so perfect for you. It somehow manages to be 60s and contemporary at the same time. I like how you have styled it really simply too. Karen x
ReplyDeleteThat's what I loved about it too Karen :oD.
DeleteIt's quite a rare thing to get a decent mix of vintage/modern, and great when it happens.
Thank you for picking up on my simple styling... hahaha... I resisted bright tights!! XXX
What did you win for the pub quiz? Beers, money, something unmentionable?
ReplyDeleteI love the sweater dresses (I have 3 but they are all solids---I may have to remedy that)! To me they are a great way to add on the layers underneath without anyone knowing it!
And those boots are quite the fun statement! Very masculine yet the patent shine makes them more girly!!
It's so fun to have a girl's night out!! Hip hip hooray!!

We won a bottle of wine Jodie...but the actual winning was the best part!! :oP
DeleteThey are quite chunky boots, I just seem to be drawn to clunky/masculine footwear.
I love the look of BIG shoes :oD XXX
Very nice dress. Isn't this a pretty color less outfit for you?
ReplyDeleteIt is Nancy! Very "neutral" :oD XXX
DeleteI love this outfit. The dress has such a cool mod vibe to it and then you paired it with those chunky ankle boots. I love clompy footwear. Excellent! Nothing beats a high-energy outing with friends. And you won - hahaha!! Well done.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun Melanie! I would never normally win a pub quiz but my brain-box friends pulled it out of the bag :oP XXX
DeleteP.S Clompy footwear rules!!!
ohhhh, such an elegant and funky outfit!, I'm loving particularly those boots!!!
ReplyDeleteFabulous!!
besos
So comfy too Monica! XXX :oD
DeleteLove this outfit. The older I get the more casual my idea of a night out outfit. This wld be perfect. I am seriously contemplating those boots.
ReplyDeleteThey seem to go with everything Sam! :oP XXX
DeleteI love this dress Samantha, especially with the ankle boots. I'm interested to see how the "grow out" goes. I haven't been able to grow out my short hair for years... frizz, and whorls, and wild-does-whatever-it-wants hair always has me hiving off to the hairdresser after a few weeks.
ReplyDeleteIt is a tough road Susan! Mine feels like a disaster just now...stay tuned :oD
DeleteThank you for your comment.
These boots go with everything!
XXX
No pressure Sam, but I bought them, so they'd better go with everything :)
ReplyDeleteYou will love them Sam!
DeleteAND chunky patent boots are so 'on-trend this AW16/17.
I am so pleased you got them too!
(Please send me a picture on twitter when they arrive)
I am yet to find something they don't go with :oD

One of my most favourite outfits from you ever! The pairing of the printed dress and the boots are so chic and super cool, Samantha!
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since my girlfriends and I had a night out; we all live in different states, and some of them just got babies, so even a dinner is inconvenient at this point! But I'm looking forward to having a casual dinner with them sometime soon, hopefully. (But I'm sure I'll totally dress up for it!)
PS: I LOVE scallops.
Thank you Liyana!
DeleteThis is a simple one for me, but so comfortable... almost like not really being dressed at all! :oP XXX
This is a very cute combination. I love the geometric print of the tunic and the patent chunky boots are perfect!!
ReplyDeleteGreat styling Santha##
Thank you Judy!
DeleteI decided to keep things simple :oD

Utterly cute, Samantha. I would wear all of this. Love the sweater dress and those boots are brilliant. Here am I holding on to my summer clothes while the weather swings back and forth like a pendulum. Mornings are now cool, but by lunchtime I have to change into something light at it's still hot. Am off shopping this weekend...
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day x
Anna
The pub/restaurant can be a little chilly Anna... and I much prefer to be too hot than too cold. I have no idea why!
DeleteTurns out that it was warm enough, but I was still glad of my cosy dress, especially for the walk home :oD
