Dreaming of sunny days.
I am not going to bore you with tales of my local weather woes.
But, suffice to say, my blog photos have been put on hold and I am wearing a chunky knitted dress as I type.
{In fact, this is a very similar look!}
I thought I would share with you an outfit I wore at the end of March, when we had a couple of warm(ish) days.
The sun was shining and there was a definite optimistic spring-like feel to the day.
I actually had bare legs here!
This look was all about this colourful little dress.
I suppose that some people might argue that (as a 40+ woman) I should perhaps consider wearing this dress as a tunic?
For the sake of decency.
Well, I am not adverse to the dress over trousers look.
In fact I am quite a fan.
{See this outfit I wore to a wedding, and this more casual DOT look}
And, today, I would have had to pair this dress with some jeans and boots...as well a a thicker cardigan.
However, the sun was actually quite warm here, and I was getting my legs out for the first time in months.
It felt good to feel the sun on my blue-tinged skin.
{I used a little self tanner on my pins here, otherwise I would have dazzled you!}
The day was still cool (especially out of the sun) so I popped on a thermal layer under the dress and a cotton cardigan over the top.
I have worn this cardigan a lot over the past few weeks.
So much for someone who claims not to like lilac!
It is quite unusual for me to go so girly, but I could not resist a couple of delicate necklaces.
I brought my outfit back down to earth again, with these casual booties.
They have a small chunky heel, and are not at all delicate or feminine.
Grounding this ice cream parlour sweetness, just a little.
Heels, or delicate shoes, would have been a step too far.
{See these shoes, styled here, last summer}
A green tote, dark toes and a chunky cuff toned things down even more.
Are you a fan of pastels?
Do you have any favourites?
How do you style yours?

Trying New colours
you're creating some lilac fabulousness once more, and I'm loving this color combo (either I'm not not a huge fan of pastels!), those shades are summery and cool and you look gorgeous wearing them!. I'm amazed you're bare legs, I still haven't done it (and I'm an optimistic!)
ReplyDeleteLove particularly your chunky booties/sandals, they give it a twist!
besos
Thank you Monica! I was a little brave and it felt like such a nice start to the year. I think these pastels are a little more colourful than the usual ones on offer...more depth maybe? I think you could really bring some pastel tones to life. And give us all some more colour-inspiration! XXX
DeleteHey....my legs are just as white as yours (if not whiter) and I'm banning the whole tanning products!! A couple years ago when I went through a couple bouts of skin cancer I decided to "embrace my whiteness"---so I'm looking for teammates? This is kinda like embracing my curls (even though not a day goes by that I wish for straight hair)
ReplyDeleteAs for decency--that term made me chuckle!! I think being older has given me a right to give that term a finger (and you know which one)! As long as you look and feel good---it's a go!!
I do love the darker bag with this outfit---truly a great look! jodie

Thank you Jodie. Of course I will join you on the pale-limb team. I am never going to be tanned. Even if I baked in the sun for weeks! At best I hope for creamy or slightly off-white. This Decleor tanner is so subtle on my skin it just takes the blue edge off, which is all I need. My grandpa always said that we should embrace our skin colour, whatever it may be, and try to be happy with what we have.
DeleteSome people wish to be darker, some paler, some straight and some curly! Your curls are lovely and you should remember that they are very youthful...a head of bouncing curls is a beautiful thing. XXX
I like pastels on you! Pretty colors! I have to be careful with pastels as most wash me completely out...
ReplyDeleteI like that you wore chunky sandals and the dark green bag!
Thank you Andrea. Pastels wash me out too...at least some shades. I do love the look of them on other people. I liked the ice-cream parlour colours. Really cheerful. I am so glad you approve of my bag and shoes, I had loads of things laid out and only these felt right. XXX
DeleteSo PRETTY!!
ReplyDeleteThe geometric design of the fabric gives the pastel colors a whole new vibe. Definitely not your "grandmothers pastels" You are a breath of Spring, right when we needed it!
As for the show of leg? Bravo! Your legs are lovely and since your top half is wrapped in a snuggly sweater the legs add a nice, tasteful contrast.
You look beautiful Samantha!
Thank you so much Judy! I am so glad I made the most of the sun while it shone (for a day or two)...I hope it returns soon. XXX

Pastels always make me think of my great auntie Audrey, she loved those fine knitted twinsets with the subtle sequinned embroidery on the front and the pearl buttons. You know the ones? XXX
DeleteSUCH a sweet, pretty look, but you edged it up with those peep toed shoes; I LOVE those shoes, I honestly want them to be in my possession! And the fact that they're Clarks - seriously, I love Clarks, I think they've stepped up their game so much in recent years. I'm always going into their shop to look at their shoes and try them on just for fun.

It was going a little too sugary! I am glad you approve of my shoe choice. More girliness would have been too much for me to handle. :OD
DeleteI love this dress Samantha and wouldn't class it as a tunic at all. You have such great legs (regardless of blue tinged or fake tanned). They're long and lean and lithe and we'd all of us (well those like me who have the short, stubby kind) wish to have your version any day. Fab colours put together like a true fashionista. Talking of which, huge congratulations on your most recent accolade. Heady stuff, Samantha! You must be thrilled. Well done x

Thank you Anna....for all of these comments! I am thrilled to bits with the IFB mention, especially when I looked at the company I am in! Wow. I might PPP this dress/tunic...it has interesting potential ;op XXX
