Wearing a White Military-style Coat in Winter.

Fake Fabulous | White Statement Winter Coat | Military style & a Fur Hat.

Styling a statement coat with a fur hat.

Last night I was heading out on a date with my husband.
Romantic meal for two? Erm... not really... we went to see a punk band.
Yes, you read that correctly!

I have to be honest, punk is not my first choice of music (I am more of a raver than a rocker) but I still had LOTS of fun.
I will not bore you with the details of the outfit underneath this coat... A Victoriana-style sheer blouse, black skinny jeans, black OTK boots (last seen, here, with red)
Not very remarkable.

I did, however, want to share with you this beautiful coat.
It injected some drama into a plain outfit, and just a little more of my own style.

This winter coat is actually a sample that was never turned into the 'real deal'.
It is made of heavyweight wool (nice and warm) with a full skirt, and has the most beautiful silver embroidery at the collar and cuffs.
The finished piece was going to be £750 (and this was about 10 years ago) but I got it for £28!
Of course, the £750 version would have been finished to a higher specification.
For example, buttons to match the embroidery and a different lining (the lining is bog standard polyester satin).
BUT, for my bargain price of £28 (had I mentioned that?!) I was not complaining.
Even in its 'sample' guise it still has great impact.
There is no need to accessorise to inject some personality.
My hat and gloves were purely for practical purposes.

It was so cold that I really needed a cosy hat, shivering is not an option for me!
Luckily, having short hair has its benefits.
One of them being: I can pop on a hat to keep warm and dry, never worrying about 'hat hair'.
As long as the hat goes on neatly, I can just whip it off, ruffle up my hair and I am good to go.

This furry hat is an old favourite of mine.
I have had it for years and I wear it very often.
Cosy and fun.
See how I wore it with white jeans, here.

A pop of raspberry lipstick, was all I needed to finish off the look.

Have you ever bought a 'Sample'?
Would you wear a white coat in winter?

  1. First off...what an interesting date night...I have to admit, I'd choose the romantic dinner for two though as most bands end up playing way past my bedtime---ha ha!
Second...that coat is such a stunner. Of course the embroidery makes it quite special (along with the fabulous price). But to me, it's also the color (or lack thereof). I'm quite a sucker for white and I bought a white coat about 10 years ago after seeing one on "The Apprentice". I still love it, but regrettably it's dingy & too big. I should do something about that, eh? jodie

    ps...so how was the band?

    1. Hahahah...me too Jodie.
The band is a group of guys that my husband is friendly with...all in their 50's but totally crazy!
      I got home a 2am. A wild night.
My coat was just a go there and get home item (I folded it up under my husband's in the venue, to protect it from the grime!)
You should get your coat altered to fit...I bet it is beautiful on you!

  2. Samantha, you look like you belong in a movie! Such a stunning look. I would most definitely wear a white coat in winter - it's a lovely statement piece. Your fur hat was the perfect accessory! Sounds like a fun date night - I am positive I could never entice Brian to go see a punk band.

  4. Oh my goodness what a terrific coat. I think I would have paid the full price. But at 28 pounds... that's a laugh. You look gorgeous. Ad J. Elle says, like a movie star. The hat and gloves just add to that.

What a stunning coat and perfect with your faux fur hat - oh so Julie Christie in Dr Zhivago.
I hope your ears weren't ringing at the end of the night!

    1. My ears were ringing...big style... It was LOUD!!
I was partly deaf for most of Sunday.
Us "older folk" certainly know how to have a good time!
Where younger people tend to worry who is looking and what people might be thinking, everyone was going wild on Saturday....a mosh pit started, and it consisted of the over 50's!
      Great fun.

  8. How does one acquire a sample? How intriguing!! The coat is beyond gorgeous. You are simply statuesque! How did it fit into the punk scene? (Insert laughing emoji!)

Samantha, the raspberry lippy, perfection. In Hong Kong there's a sound added at the end of English phrases to increase the enthusiasm of the statement. I'm going to use it here: you're so pretty la!

Thanks for linking up to the Kremb de la Kremb Style Stories Link Up. I love seeing you there. And link as many as you like! :D

    1. Hahahaha...yes it does seem ridiculous to wear this to a dirty venue.
      It is not very "punk".
However, I took it off as soon as I arrived and my husband wrapped it in his old coat...so it was safe from the grot.
I was wearing head to toe black underneath....a little more "punk"?
In hindsight, I should have worn my vinyl leggings and a band tee-shirt.
      Maybe next time?

  10. There's a real Russian vibe with this ensemble Samantha. Such a brilliant buy for £28 - you ought to be chuffed with bagging such a bargain. I adore the detail of the silver stitching, beautiful. Another winter white look that's fresh and fun on you Sam x

    1. I loved the drama of wearing this....It makes me walk tall (and maybe even strut a little?!). Then it was bundled inside my husbands coat and I mingled with the dirt and grime until home time. When we headed home (in the early hours) there was snow covering the ground and I did feel that Russian vibe then Anna! XXX Спасибо
